NDT Group Inc., a leading provider of pipeline inspection and integrity services, has adopted the PLX-Portable becoming the first company in Canada to deploy this next-generation in-field material verification system.

This decision marks the launch of a new service line at NDT Group, offering pipeline operators fast, accurate, and non-destructive yield and tensile strength data, delivered directly from the test site. Whether supporting integrity digs, evaluating vibration-prone assets, or meeting regulatory requirements, this capability helps operators make confident, defensible decisions - keeping projects moving and turnaround times short.

“The PLX-Portable has opened the door to a whole new service line for us,” said Lazaro Manzano, Director of Pipeline Services at NDT Group. “We’re now able to offer material verification as part of our broader integrity services. It’s something that we’ve seen increasing demand for across the Canadian market, and is a seamless fit with the work we’re already doing for our clients.”

The system delivers lab-grade mechanical data immediately after testing, with over 100 built-in quality checks and a software-guided workflow that ensures consistency, meaning operators receive accurate data quickly and reliably.

“Our technicians are among the best in the business. When you pair that capability with a system like the PLX-Portable, it’s a real step forward,” said Luis Velandia, Principal Integrity Engineer at NDT Group. “It’s fast, repeatable, and intuitive to use. That means we can give our clients the kind of actionable data they need to move forward with confidence.”

The PLX-Portable’s performance has been independently validated through a PRCI-led round-robin study, confirming the lowest error rates of any system in its class. Unlike traditional correlation-based methods, it uses a physics-based simulation technique to directly determine material strength, making it inherently resistant to vibration and ideal for compressor stations and other complex field environments. This gives operators greater confidence in the data and helps avoid the automatic knockdowns often required with other technologies, reducing the risk of unnecessary pipe derating. It is also the only technology of its kind currently progressing through formal ASTM standardization, offering an added layer of assurance for regulatory compliance.

Dr. Mike Coto, Chief Commercial Officer at Plastometrex, added:

“This is a great example of how operators benefit when field service providers bring best-in-class tools to the job. NDT Group is the first in Canada to roll out the PLX-Portable, and we’re proud to support them in offering operators more accurate, efficient, and timely strength data when it matters most.”

With the system now deployed and a team of certified technicians ready to go, NDT Group is now equipped to deliver reliable, in-field strength verification as part of its integrity services, giving operators a new way to reduce risk, support compliance, and keep projects moving.
